FRIENDSHIP DAY EXETER

Greetings from Exeter Tasmania. In Stitches friendship day. I am here with quilters from all over Tasmania including my buddy Leanne (Lizzy the quilter).

The atmosphere is electric and the room is full. Lots of fun food a quilting friendship going on. Its been a great day and I look forward to the next friendship day wherever that might be.

Just a couple of quilts on display at the front of the room by quilters from the Exeter In Stitches group who were hosting the day.

The room fills quickly as people come in looking for a place to sit

I worked on my Mrs Billings Coverlet quilt which is coming along slowly.
I have been quite slack with my blog LOL there are just so many things and not enough hours in the day. Springtime in Tasmania means gardening and spending time outdoors and also about meeting up with friends for BBQ's and other outings like friendship days.

From now on I will post other things as I have been doing a bit of knitting. I would also like to post pictures and stories from my travels and outings but may not be quilt related. In saying that Avonlea Vignettes will be mainly about quilting and quilting friends. Little snippets of life from the bottom of the globe on the little apple shaped island of Tasmania.

Take care
Until next time

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME

Yesterday was my birthday. Most years this day approached with dread lol. This year and with a different mind set regarding numbers and states of mind, I decided that age is but a number. I had a lovely day at quilting stitching with friends and eating cake.

Thank Leanne (lizzie the quilter) for my beautiful gift which I love :) and much appreciate.

I look forward to turning 18 again next year.

MORE MRS BILLINGS PROGRESS

What a great day for sewing!! rain and wind outside, cold and damp. Time well spent indoors with needle and thread.

Its slowly coming along. This week I spent finishing the little hexagon flower block border. Its finally done and I can now move on to the next part which is the large diamond border.

So lots of cutting out and drawing of templates to come this week. That is the most tedious task but the end results are well worth the effort.

MRS BILLINGS COVERLET PROGRESS

Lately I have been doing quite a bit of work on Mrs Billings Coverlet Block of the Month program.

It has been a lot of fun tracing and cutting out pieces and then hand sewing them all together.

I will be hand piecing and then hand quilting the entire quilt.

My progress so far

Closer view of one of the corners. the little squares in the outer border are about 1 inch in size.

The green fabric was not part of the original colour scheme so I have added that myself.

CRAFT FAIR, LAUNCESTON

Yesterday was a fun day. I went along to the craft fair to see the quilts that were on display. It was put together by the Tasmanian Quilting Guild.

Here are a few pictures from the Launceston Craft Fair I went to yesterday at the Silverdome. There were so many beautiful quilts and things to see it was hard to decide which one was my favourite.

Some of them are a bit blurry. The lighting was poor and my hands shaky. Sorry about that.

After seeing all these beautiful coloured creations I was inspired to get back to work on my Mrs Billings Coverlet quilt. Sunday will be Sew day from now on.

Baltimore Applique quilt.
Dahlia pieced medallion.
Mrs Billings Coverlet quilt. This is what I am working on at the moment. My colours are in reds, pinks, blacks and browns.
Another Baltimore style applique.
Amazing colours.

If I had to choose a favourite one it would be this one. Probably because I love the colours and the bouquet in the middle.

This was a whole cloth quilt machine embroidered with sparkly bling all over it.

Machine embroidered Tiger was really beautiful.

I loved the colours in this one as well. I have always wanted to make a star quilt like this. Maybe later after I finish others. This star is traditionally Amish.

HELLO 2012

"So, now a New Age has started which is called the Age of Aquarius, meaning the pitcher carrier of spiritual holy water that is the work of Kundalini."

It has been like forever since I last put something on my blog. Time just seems to disappear without me even noticing.

I have started a new project as well as finishing off old ones. This year is going to be a year of finishing. Just as the earth finishes the old age of Pisces and begins the new age of Aquarius, so to will I finish my old projects. No more new things (except this BOM :)

Mrs Billings coverlet is what this quilt is called. I am going to hand piece it all and by the time its finished it will be around queen sized. Will post progress here as I go, otherwise Google may deem my blog abandoned.

The Age of Aquarius

What is the Aquarian Age? According to Eva S. Dowling the “human race is to-day standing upon the cusp of the Piscean-Aquarian Ages. Aquarius is an air sign and the New Age is already noted for remarkable inventions for the use of air, electricity, magnetism, etc. Men navigate the air as fish do the sea, and send their thoughts spinning around the world with the speed of lightning. The word Aquarius is derived from the Latin word aqua, meaning water. Aquarius is however, the water bearer, and the symbol of the sign, which is the eleventh sign of the Zodiac, is a man carrying in his right hand a pitcher of water. Jesus referred to the beginning of the Aquarian Age in these words: 'And then the man who bears the pitcher will walk forth across an arc of heaven; the sign and signet of the Son of Man will stand forth in the eastern sky. The wise will then lift up their heads and know that the redemption of the earth is near.'” (Aquarian Gospel 157: 29, 30.) The Aquarian Age is pre-eminently a spiritual age, and the spiritual side of the great lessons that Jesus gave to the world may now be comprehended by multitudes of people, for the many are now coming into an advanced stage of spiritual consciousness.

TQG FRIENDSHIP DAY

The Tasmanian Quilters Guild had their friendship day today. Quilters from all over Tasmania gathered for a day of friendship, food and stitching. I went along with my dear friend Leanne and worked on projects in progress and chatted with other people there. Several shops from different places had stands set up so we could buy things.
On arrival scones were waiting on all the tables. Lunch was soup and sandwiches and also some cakes and biscuits. Overall the day was really nice.

Scones with jam and cream for morning tea

One of the shops stalls setting up. This one was The Village Sampler from Lilydale.

Everyone arriving and finding seats.
